Naomi specialises in electroacoustic and contemporary composition. She aims to invoke a strong emotional response and a distinct feeling with each of her works, whether that be a sense of calm or tension, serenity or uneasiness.
Her work frequently utilises the notion of 'tension and release', focusing on harmony, gesture and space. She particularly likes to create pieces that blend recognisable and manipulated sounds, creating a strangely familiar yet warped sound world. Naomi is also very interested in soundscapes, often creating compositions comprised entirely of the human voice - words and phrases combined together, each with a specific character or purpose - to convey thoughts and ideas on topics such as feminism, the environment and existence. Naomi's love for contemporary electroacoustic music began during her studies at the University of Manchester with Ricardo Climent and David Berezan. |

Lollote
'Lollote' is an electroacoustic soundscape inspired by and written to accompany Modigliani's portrait 'Lolotte'. It was composed for Collective31's event 'HEAR' - a sound and art installation in the Linbury Gallery at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. Programme Note: It was the eyes of the lady in Modigliani's painting that really drew me in. While at first I found her image quite peaceful, the more I looked at her, the more troubled I began to feel. Coupled with the deep, turbulent red's in the background I began to feel more anxious than peaceful. I tried to represent this feeling with the distant, warped violin melodies and ambient textures. |
